Two Podcast Episodes

Nightmare Magazine

  • Rich Larson did a story called “Growing & Growing”. You could tell that it was going to be dreary because of how he tells the story and how his voice goes along with it. Even with story being dark, he still manages to keep the audience on their feet. ‘Growing & Growing’ had a part where the baby was deformed and it couldn’t speak; Only to figure out that it’ll grow some bad teeth and eventually talk. The way Larson composed and wrote the story, it’s almost as if it’s a scary masterpiece.

Bodega Boys

  • Ep. 194 “Imagine” March 23, 2020

As I started to listen to them, Deus & Meuro, I realized that they’re a different type of funny. They had a variety of content, yet and still managing to be funny. The COVID-19 doesn’t stop them from making a funny, fulfilling podcast; At the start of the podcast, they posed as Donald Trump, and made fun of how he speaks. “I’ve already told you, we’ve got this under control, please stop asking me.” These two dudes are very funny, yet being somewhat enlightening at the same time.

How Social Media’s Captured the Mind

https://PollEv.com/multiple_choice_polls/PKGGVQRuZd7ApJGLMZuz9/respond

Should you or should you not be able to use social media? Social media entitles apps like Instagram, Snapchat,Tik-tok, Twitter, etc. On these apps you’re free to say or express whatever, whenever, and wherever. However, if you were to go outside of the policies the app lays out, you could be suspended or banned. I would say that social media has captivated all of humanity, and you hardly see anybody without some form of social media.

Social media is becoming the new normal in today’s world. Almost everywhere you turn, there’s somebody with a phone, checking a notification, posting or texting something, or taking a picture, capturing the moment. Then you have those people who don’t like the idea of social media, and want to do everything face to face; For instance, some people would rather have a face-to face conversation rather than texting. So, now the question becomes, is social media capturing the mind, or isn’t a big deal?

Me, personally, I say social media enhances things in a different way, i.e., starting a promoting a business, giving a shoutout, making money, etc. All of these different ways the world used to do things, can be done with using social media. For example, Varun Sharma from Curatti says, “Sports lovers can follow sports communities. Car lovers, music lovers and movie buffs can reminisce, converse and keep up to date with their hobbies.” Back in the day people used to have to watch the news or catch the daily newspaper, but now people can follow their teams on social media and get a daily update on them, and anything else. 7 Ways That Social Media is Affecting Us Positively

Another way social media is good for you, is preventing cyberbullying and having support groups. We all know bullying is a serious matter, and shouldn’t be taken lightly. Varun also says “Lives are not only saved only by 24-hour suicide prevention hotlines. Spreading awareness and motivating people is important too. And simply assuring people that they are not alone – or the only ones with their set of problems.” Social media can also bring awareness to someone having a hard time, recording something, or a text from that special someone literally saves people’s lives. Also, Kevin Naruse from “Painted Brain” says “Social media offers the chance to connect with others, and offers enough anonymity to allow people with mental illness to express themselves.” 7 Ways Social Media Can Benefit Mental Health He’s saying that social media can help with issues and the chance to vent anonymously. Social media can be a safe space, depending on who and what you follow.

I believe all social media is good for everybody, and everybody should have some type of them. There’s no harm in having an app and being outspoken on social media platforms. In fact, there’s yet another reason for using it, a noble cause. Bilal Ahmad from Techmaish says “ Social media can also be used for noble causes…for donation for needy people.”;10 Advantages and Disadvantages of Social Media for Society – You can actually do good when using social media, and get people involved w/your cause; Social media can be really beneficial, if it’s used correctly.  However, some people believe social media is a corruption, an abomination, or just flat out disruption from the way of life.

As I said before, some people want to do everything face-to-face, and want nothing to do with social media. Some say it corrupts the mind, and slows people down when trying to talk to people. Social media, to some, is crippling people of having an actual conversation.

All in all, social media isn’t a bad thing to use, it’s actually pretty useful. You can use it to promote something, spread awareness, help somebody, or just freely express yourself. Using social media can come in handy, and could enhance some of your skills. Social media, and the apps can help you in this day in age, and how it’s looking, it seems like you’re going to have it use it at some point, so why not make the best of it.

Is Knowing Too Much like Knowing Nothing at all?

Much like the title says, is knowledge a good or bad thing to obtain? Where would you learn to insert your knowledge? How would you tell what you know? If you’re having any of these questions, you’re probably experiencing the democratization of knowledge.   All of these questions are what runs through people’s mind when it comes to “having too much knowledge”.

So, democratization of knowledge is having knowledge available to the masses, thanks to technology. Also, creating and disseminating, or sending out knowledge, becomes easier. This knowledge that people can obtain, can either help you or hurt you. I say that to say, it is good to have a lot of knowledge, but too much could lead to more empowerment, sometimes in a bad way.

Democratization of knowledge, to me, is having too much knowledge for one person. Larry Sanger, founder of Wikipedia, said in “Who Says We Know: On The New Politics of Knowledge”, “To be able to determine society’s background knowledge–to establish what “we all know”–is an awesome sort of power.”; That power could be good, cause it shows people your smart, right? But, what if somebody uses that knowledge and turns into an evil genius?

There’s also some good that comes with the democratization of knowledge, but to an extent. For instance, if you don’t know something, and you need to look something up, you can now use the Internet to gain that certain knowledge. It’s coming to a “ if you don’t know something, look it up” type of world.  Sanders also said in “Who Says We Know”, “Professionals are no longer needed for the bare purpose of the mass distribution of information and the shaping of opinion.” An example of this is, if you don’t know the specifics of something, you get on Google and look it up. Adding to the Internet, there’s also various resources to choose from within the internet. Casey Colman from the GSA blog says “Technology allows more information for more people than ever… The growth of resources available to anyone with Internet access is truly astounding.” It’s like you can get more than one person’s opinion on something. The Democratization of Knowledge  But, let’s say you do look at something, and it looks good, but it doesn’t really fit with what you’re thinking, you’ll look at the internet as somewhat of a liar.

There’s some things that the “streets” or outside world can tell you, the internet can’t.

There’s something the world can teach you, that a book can’t.  Schools can teach you the history from which you came, but the world could teach you that you’re just a person in the world, and you have to make your own landmark and legacy. When gaining knowledge, comes some lessons. There’s a learned lesson, and a life lesson. A learned lesson is when somebody teaches you something, like 4×4=16. Simple enough, right? A life lesson and something that you go through and what you’ve learned from it, like if you get into a car wreck, and you weren’t looking at the road. I’ll bet you’ll start paying attention to the road more than your phone when you’re in the car.

Long story short, democratization of knowledge, could help us and hurt us at the same time. It’s helpful because we can use many resources and form an opinion on something, it’s hurtful because if we seek it so much, to the point where we start inheriting falsities, and maybe what we knew, isn’t true at all. So, I feel that’s a slippery slope, you’ll just have to know what’s real and what’s not.

Misuse of the Tattoo

If somebody was to use my artwork without asking me, I’d be a little furious, & feeling a little bit of excitement and gratitude. As an artist or somebody who distributes art, It would be nice if they showed their gratitude by having someone shout me out, possibly do a scene where I recreate the tattoo, or try to promote the tattoo, anything that shows respect could be enough for me. On the other hand, depending on how I feel, I would really like to be compensated for my artwork. If I’m an artist (not necessarily struggling), I’m going to need every penny for my art because my art isn’t free and I work hard for my art.

So let’s get into it, the person who created the tattoo for Mike Tyson is a Missouri native named S. Victor Whitmill. According to Matthew Belloni from The Hollywood Reporter, Whitmill sued Warner Bros for using his tattoo without permission, in result asking U.S. District Court Judge Catherine D. Perry to stop the release. Push came to shove, unfortunately, he didn’t get the settlement and the movie still went to gross $500 million worldwide, making it the highest R-rated comedy.

When an artist makes a tattoo, and it’s shown elsewhere, he/she does have the right to be credited for their work. Belloni says “copyrighted works are copyrighted works, no matter whether they are painted on canvases or walls or the bodies of former heavyweight champions” Warner Bros. Settles ‘Hangover II’ Tattoo Lawsuit (Exclusive). I wouldn’t go so far as to say that using a tattoo without permission is libel, or stealing anybody’s work or anything, but you have to give credit where it’s due.

Also, as an artist, sometimes it takes just somebody you did a tattoo on, and they play in a movie, and now everybody wants a tattoo from you. This is what you call promotion. If I was in Whitmill’s shoes, I would’ve looked at it in a way of them showing gratitude, or using my art as publicity. It was once said that you can’t pay for free publicity; Anybody who uses your work obviously loves it a great deal, or they wouldn’t even think twice about using it. In a situation where you don’t get the money you sued for, they’ve publicized your piece or art,you get your art in the right hands of people, and now you have a ton of people waiting for you to tattoo them. Chris Nunez and Oliver Peck from GQ critiqued a few people on their tattoo, but they didn’t get to the status they have overnight, they’d have to keep tattooing. Tattoo Artists Critique Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and More Celebrity Tattoos | GQ

I believe that in due time, and the right amount of publicity, the amount that you’re asking from that movie, you’ll make double as much from the publicity you recieved. Sometimes it isn’t always about the work you do, it’s about the hands you get them too.

The Hot Helper

I want to pose a question, Do you think married couples need to avoid hiring an attractive home helper? Me, personally, I’m kind of in the middle with it, I say yes and no. If there’s no trust, then it won’t matter whose in the house, if you can’t trust one another, that nanny won’t even matter. I say yes, because, if you fantasize about something other than your spouse, and your fantasy comes to life, it could almost be as if you don’t know how to handle yourself.

If you’re married, there’s no reason why your eyes should be on anybody else. On the same token, you can’t avoid people from appearing and popping up, so what I would say is be loyal in the best way you know how and give the attention your spouse needs. According to David Wygant from “How A Married Man’s Friendships With Single Women Become Affairs” he’s usually the guy you meet who immediately wants to be your “friend.” Yet, these men aren’t just friends with women. They’re only friends with women they’re attracted to. Because that’s how it starts — with a mental affair. He’ll frame your interaction as business, like, “Hey, let’s have a business dinner.” When I read this, I was very intrigued as to how men are manipulative with words and their actions. This is really saying that men only become friends with women because they’ll end up having some type of affair or relation with that woman.

Here’s the reason why I’d say it would become a problem, an attractive person coming into a married persons home can be manipulating, and taunting. According to “Why Hiring Attractive People Works” this site says “Beauty is not always defined not in terms of things like bone structure and nose shape, but rather in how well someone presents themselves – is their hair styled or messy?  Is their shirt pressed or wrinkled? Suit properly tailored? Make-up properly applied? Do they carry themselves with poise and confidence? These are all great traits for employees to have!”; Or they necessarily don’t have to look good, but if he carry him/herself in a right manner, that can be attractive within itself.

As I said before, as long as you trust your spouse and communicate with your spouse, everything should be copesthetic. But, in most cases, most people either don’t trust their spouses or they don’t trust the situation, if it makes sense. For instance, your husband/wife is in a confined space without you, he/she might be tempted to dive into that other woman/man, but if they were with their husband/wife that situation probably wouldn’t have never happened. So sometimes, it has nothing to do with their spouse, just the situation.

So, in conclusion, I would say don’t hire anybody attractive if you can’t handle the pressure that comes with it. You can’t hide from anybody, it’s inevitable, there’s just as much attractive people as it is unattractive people. If you want to keep your marriage happy and in tact, you shouldn’t hire anybody that’s attractive.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
